Bournemouth quintet South Of Salem channel their love of classic heavy metal, 80s sleaze and horror into a an all out hard rock explosion with a modern twist. Having played together in various acts during the 2010’s, the members formed the band in 2019 as a no compromises ‘one last shot’ at doing what they love.
Heading into the studio with Scott Atkins (Cradle of Filth/Sylosis) they found their sound and laid down their debut album ‘The Sinner Takes It All’. The first single ‘Let Us Prey’ was released on the same day they first hit the stage in early 2020, but their instant success was halted by the pandemic, after just one show the dream would have to go on hold.
During lockdown the band tragically lost friends to suicide and decided to release ‘Demons Are Forever’ on World Suicide Prevention Day 2020 to raise awareness and money for UK charity MIND. The video featured fans who had been affected in their lives and built a real bond between the band and their ‘Coven,’ the affectionate name used for the South Of Salem fan group.
Undeterred by lockdowns they pressed on and released their debut album in September 2020 to critical acclaim. Lead single ‘Cold Day In Hell’ would go on to have 400k streams and appear on Planet Rock, Kerrang! and more. Since then the band have gone from strength to strength becoming known for having a high-energy stage show and becoming one of the hottest UK live acts touring with WASP, Wednesday 13, Mason Hill and appearing at numerous festivals in the UK and Europe including Bloodstock and Stonedead.
In 2023 The band recorded their sophomore album ‘Death Of The Party’ with Grammy nominated producer Romesh Dodangoda (Bring Me The Horizon/Twin Atlantic.) Expanding on their sound and honing their song writing the result is a record that rocks hard and puts everything on the table. ‘Death Of The Party’s first single ‘Left For Dead’ drops on 11th October 2023 with the record launch on 19th January 2024.
